Ealing, Hammersmith & West London College (EHWLC) one of the capital’s largest vocation education and training institutions has over 25,000 students, 2,500 from 112 countries around the globe. The College operates across four campuses in Acton, Ealing, Hammersmith and Southall. The College’s ‘Excellence Through Learner First - A strategic plan towards 2012’ and ‘Learner First Pledge’ demonstrate its commitment to providing all learners with rich and stimulating learning environments, delivered through personalised learning pathways. EHWCL also aspires to implement a learner first strategy for staff.
To design and deliver a professional development programme for members of the Ethnic Minority Staff Network which included teaching and non teaching staff to meet the learning and development objectives of the individuals, the group and the College in the context of the College’s ‘Excellence Through Learner First - A strategic plan towards 2012’ and ‘Learner Pledge’
The learning objectives were to provide a stimulating, creative and challenging learning environment to build confidence; explore and develop the collective thinking of the Network members on how to unleash their potential to succeed in their current jobs and future careers; assist in taking actions to ‘Fit-in and Stand-out’; gain an understanding of the external environment/context in which the College operates.
“I got more than I expected, I am now aware of my Key Leadership Strengths and the areas of enrichment to work on.”
“Personal story forced me to think about me and myself/career development. The time I have been at the college and the goals I need to set for my continued progression”
“Strengths and EQ-i assessment “An interesting and very thorough assessment, which identified key strengths and areas for enrichment”
The whole approach, design, delivery and follow-up one to one, for me, was apt because I am being challenged, it is getting me to think about myself / career development. It’s almost as though, this exercise has enabled me to see things more clearly, I can see where I have been too complacent in the past and how I should have dealt with certain situations, how I need to move forward. So, I have to give kudos to the facilitator for the commitment, diligence, thought, knowledge, time and effort invested in this programme.“
“All staff should benefit from a workshop like this. Some may be sceptical but once you have done the workshop it’s a start to regaining one’s confidence and belief in self.”
“I will take away this quote from one of the fellow members. Fear is False Evidence Appearing As Real.”
